…e murmurem vossas bocas (…and your mouths shall murmur) reflects my interest in Arab-Andalusian poetry, and in particular in the poets of what is today Portugal, my home country. It is inspired by poetic forms and their related ratios and it uses different makams, exploring new ways of using rhythmic and melodic ‘modes’ in contemporary music. The work is dedicated to Amanda Hardy and was written with the generous support of a MacDowell Colony Fellowship.
